David de Gea wins Manchester United Player of the Year for record third time

David de Gea won a third straight Man Utd Player of the Year award

David de Gea has become the first player to be crowned Manchester United's Player of the Year for a third successive season.

The goalkeeper picked up the Sir Matt Busby Award at the club's end-of-season dinner on Monday night after another excellent season.

"It's difficult to say something, to win three years in a row is amazing, I'm really happy," he said.
"It's an honour and I want to say thank you to everyone. I think we have some of the best fans in the world - thank you to everyone.
Earlier, defender Chris Smalling was named Players' Player of the Year and Anthony Martial won the Goal Of The Year award for his debut strike against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson was named under-21 Player of the Year and Marcus Rashford took the prize in the under-18s category.

In his speech, manager Louis van Gaal once again underlined his intent to win a trophy for the club this season.
"We're still in a position to qualify [for the Champions League], and we're in the final of the FA Cup," he said.

"We've fought back many times [this season], so you can applaud the players, because they've done it. I came to England to win a trophy, but first we have to qualify for the Champions League."
